Pantone’s Color of the Year 2017 — Greenery

So the color forecasters at Pantone Color Institute have picked Greenery as the Color of the Year for 2017 – and honestly I’m loving it! 2016 has been quite a tumultuous year from a global point of view. It’s been a year of social and political upheaval, including the personal battles, which left a lot of us feeling defeated and disappointed.

Where every ‘crust’ is scrumptious

I wrote this Food Review two years ago. 🙂

Upper Crust is, undoubtedly, my favorite restaurant in Ahmedabad. The ambience of the place is simple and warm. It is always packed with a lively crowd, no matter what. I have always had a great culinary experience there. Whatever I have tried there has been appealing. But there is one dish that I have never been able to get enough of and that is ‘Olive Chicken Steak’ which I try every time I visit. The plate is an assortment of garlic bread, boiled vegetables, cheese spaghetti and chicken steak.

A heavenly plate of everything delicious! Photograph by Asavari Sharma.

I still remember the first time I ordered the ambrosial platter. The first thing that I tried was garlic bread. Nothing could compare to the essence of a freshly baked and fluffy piece of flour. The two slices of bread were stained in butter and this made them even more irresistible. The bread loaves easily gave in to me. They melted in my mouth with ease just as two lovers would in each others’ arms. Oh! It was just divine.

Writers Rock, Definitely.

This is the age of start-ups. From e-commerce set ups to digital agencies, you will find ‘n’ number of companies mushrooming all around you. Sure, they’re employing people in hoards for content generation, social media management and graphic designing. And while it is rather tricky to comment on how well other departments are performing, content writing is definitely going to the dogs!

book-wallpaper-1024x576Recently, I got an offer to work as a content strategist with an online home store based out of Delhi on a freelance basis. After going through the complete job profile, I quoted my monetary expectations. They never called me back. Honestly, I was not trying to oversell myself. I was simply asking to be paid well for my creative services.

I’m not trying to glorify my skills as a writer here. I know where I stand and if I’m working for somebody, I want to be paid well. Writing involves a bit of creativity and unfortunately, such companies don’t realize the importance of writing that, by the way, requires extra amount of energy and time.

Let’s do a comparative analysis of what a content writer is capable of and what he or she is asked to do at most organizations:

For Your Eyes or Conversation Only

What’s a coffee table book? In simple words, it’s a huge book, displayed on the coffee table, with a clear intention of entertaining guests. It is a conversation starter and fills your head with stunning imagery. A typical coffee table book can be on anything: art, films, food, personalities, travel to name a few. While researching on this article, I came across a kaleidoscope of such books. While some offered powerful photos depicting reality, others were for smart & crisp reading. But let’s keep the serious & thought-provoking books for later.

This article is for the free-spirited person in you who doesn’t take a minute in getting engrossed in visually arresting books from time to time. For your perusal, I have shortlisted three supremely different books. You may or may not like these.

Happy Father’s Day

So as a small gesture from my side, I ordered a box of 6 custom cupcakes on Father’s Day from an in-house bakery based out of Gurgaon ‘Love…Is Cakes’.

Happy Father’s Day! 🙂

Ek Cup ‘Chai’

For me, a cup of ginger tea every morning is a must. I can’t imagine starting my day without it. I get extremely cranky & irritated if I’m not given my daily cuppa on time! For that, I credit my housekeeper who sincerely gets me my ‘adarak wali chai’ whilst I’m in bed, delaying the process of getting up. But life is bliss after the first sip.

Here’s why:

Summers are here! And so are the days when our bodies get unbelievably itchy, sweaty and prickly. Ways to Perk Up Your Mood

If you undergo small phases in life where you feel terribly low or depressed and feel extremely out of place because of this, don’t worry. We all have the tendency to feel this at some or the other point in our lives. Whether you are a 17-year-old stressed about exams or a 32-year-old professional worried about work, it is entirely normal to get that ‘sinking’ feeling every now and then.

You may experience bouts of frustration, anxiety and record-breaking mood swings; the results of which have been terrible! Therefore, in order to stay sane, it is necessary to find ways to keep yourself out of the unfathomable bubble of negative thoughts.

Here’s how you can perk up the mood in times of distress:

Leave your bed

No, seriously. Get out of your bed. Hiding all day long under the blanket is not a good idea. In such cases of total inactivity, you tend to think about everything that has (not) gone wrong in your life! There’s no way you can look at the brighter side. With your tousled hair, dirty night t-shirt and swollen eyes, you believe that ‘your life is over’! Don’t do that to yourself, please.

About Women, For Women, By A Woman

Being a woman is a boon. And, being a female writer & journalist has its own perks especially if your work requires you to connect with successful women.  In a country like India where misogyny and sexism prevail like no one’s business, intellectually stimulating interactions with the inspiring so-called ‘weaker’ sex are a must.

So when I was given the task to interview five interior designers for an assignment, I was elated and couldn’t wait to hear what they had to say about their professional journey, domestic responsibilities and of course, womanhood!

This article, ‘“Women are the Interior designers of our society”, says Team FabFurnish‘ is my way of celebrating womanhood in a fashion I feel is most appropriate, satisfying and empowering.

Ladies, Dress Like A Leader!

Being a woman entrepreneur in this ruthless corporate world isn’t easy. No matter how good you are at your job or how quickly your business is flourishing, there’s always a desire to be respected by everyone working under you. One of the ways to fulfill that desire is to take your work wardrobe very seriously.

Did you know that your attire at work can say a lot about you? Yes. Gone are those days when every professional would don a suit to work. Today, you have the liberty to choose your work clothes. Unfortunately, there are many definitions of casual and formal wear and it is easy to make major fashion blunders at work.

While most professionals dress to impress their clients or bosses, you have to dress to exude confidence and authority. So let’s take a look at five types of wardrobe that can do wonders for you at office.

1. Complete casuals

This is where there’s a high possibility of dressing up shabbily. If the dress code is completely casual, you can pick up denims, spaghetti tops, floral skirts, and even summer frocks! However, properly ironed and fitted T-shirts or blouses in subtle colors paired with a crisp and tidy pair of denims will do the trick. Also, don’t forget to accessorize your clothes with a nice pair of sandals.

2. Semi casuals

This dress code gives you the space to experiment. You know it’s casual but you also know, you can’t dress up in whichever you want. Usually, short or half-sleeved tops or blouses worn with a formal skirt in single colors looks great. Choose kitty heels to complete the look.

3. Executive casuals

This is a mix of formal and casual dress code; although it’s more inclined towards formal wardrobe. Wear a properly ironed shirt of any color and pair it with a formal skirt or pants in single colors. You can also accessorize it with nice pair of earrings or a watch! Go with close toe pumps or high heeled-peep toes.

4. Traditional formals

When it comes to dressing up in formals, show everyone that you are the leader! A neat and crisp formal top paired with either a skirt or pants will look great. Go for bright tops or shirts. Also, wear a single-colored jacket. Accessorize your attire with close toe heels or peep toes.

5. Complete formals

There’s no scope of experimentation here. Wear a simple collared top or shirt with a pair of pants or skirt. You can accessorize your attire with a subtle pearl necklace. Although wearing tights is optional, go for black or brown pumps only.

Remember – You set the wardrobe rules in your organization. So, make sure they are implemented in the right ‘fashion’. Also, be comfortable in whatever you wear. The more comfortable you are, the more confident you’ll look.
