Fukreys came to town

ASAVARI SHARMA

They play jobless in this film but this youthful bunch of actors along with their director and producer were in aapnu Amdavad to do a job — promote their upcoming laugh riot, Fukrey.

Youthful, energetic and full of life, actors Pulkit Samrat, Manjot Singh, Ali Fazal and Varun Sharma along with director Mrigdeep Singh Lamba and producer Ritesh Sidhwani were at their ‘fukra’ best on a promotional trip to the city on Thursday. Besides the controversy that surrounded the title, Fukrey (pronounced as foo-kray, not otherwise), the film has garnered interest perhaps owing to the youthful ensemble of actors and of course that multi-talented Farhan Akhtar and friend Ritesh Sidhwani have pumped in money.

PULKIT SAMRAT, HUNNY: The epitome of fukrapanti, Hunny feels he’s “cheated by God”. He thinks he should have been born as an Ambani or a Tata. “He is a shameless character,” said Pulkit.

MANJOT SINGH, LALI: He had no problems getting under the skin of his character. “Shy, innocent and well-behaved, Lali and I are the same. He’s desperate to get into the same college as his girlfriend’s. He is also a devout Sikh,” said Manjot.

ALI FAZAL, ZAFAR: A die-hard romantic, Ali says Fukrey is a more of an earthy film about people with small dreams. “I play the role of a musician who is the eldest of the lot. Unlike other characters, he wants to get out of college. He has ‘been there, done that’ and has a turmoil going on in his life.

VARUN SHARMA, CHOOCHA: Debutant Varun plays “an interesting character”. “Choocha is best friends with Hunny”, he said adding, “They are so close that if any of them was a girl, they would have tied the knot!” Choocha is a dreamer and a free-spirited guy, just like Varun.

FARHAN AKHTAR (WHO MISSED THE TRIP OWING TO ILLNESS) AND RITESH SIDHWANI, PRODUCERS: Ali Fazal mentioned that “they are the biggest fukras around” and it is “commendable how they have made it this big!” Ritesh said, “When the audience goes to watch a film of a popular actor, they watch him with a baggage. It doesn’t make the film believable then. We didn’t want that to happen with Fukrey.”

MRIGHDEEP SINGH LAMBA, DIRECTOR: The director of Teen Thay Bhai released two years ago, said, “It is about four youngsters with small desires like going to college, having a girlfriend and living without boundaries.”

Fukrey releases on June 14.
